good morning,

i have tried to remove the oil pan on my 1979 chevy suburban.
it is the big block 7.4 machine with the TH 400 automatic transmission.

my problem is that the pan hangs on the flywheel from the converter ...

do you have an advice?

maybe i should lift the motor a little ...

Yup, looks like you won't have to lift it much though. Is the front of the pan hitting the crank counterweight? rotate the engine

We have tried to rotae the engine.
but it doesnt help.

the crank counterweight is round ... one piece.

so we have tried to lift the transmission ... no success.

so I only can try to lift the whole engine
by loosing the engine mounts left and right ...

in my eyes i have to watch the distributor cap ...

will write an update soon.

Just loosen the dizzy cap, no need to remove it, watch the fan blade on the shroud also

thx a lot for all tipps ... my way was to loose the bearing of the TH400 and to lift it up for about 5cm. everything is fine. thx! stephan

ps: dont forget to loose the "kardanwelle" from the automatic transmission ...
sry, poor english, dunno the english word ... cardan axle ???
