What is this?
Under the hood of my 70 gmc jimmy 350 w/ac and I notice an old leaky valve....is this a heater control valve? Doesnt look like the books but it appears to have the heater cable (or vent) attached to it.

Re: What is this?
Looks like an aftermarket valve, but I could be wrong. I put one in my truck to stop the hot air coming out of the heater under the dash.

Re: What is this?
Ok....bought the correct valve, same as pictured. The one I had installed that I showed in my picture had (what I'm guessing to be) a heater control cable hooked to it. The factory doesnt have that...only an inlet outlet for coolant and a vacuum port. Where the heck did they get the cable that hooked to my after market valve and where can I put it?

Re: What is this?
Good question, since it was a non-factory part. Trace it out to see where it goes, probably a hand-operated lever or something that a PO installed. Under the dash maybe, where a driver could reach it. After you find it, you'll probably want to remove it.

Re: What is this?
Ill have to do that. Ive been scouring the forum and have pictures of original valve and there is not any cables. So the original owner must have farted with this too...as well as a lot of the wiring...he loved lights.

Re: What is this?
Traced it into the cab and found it was put under the dash. I initially thought it was a manual choke but turned out to be attached to the heater control valve. Its all gone now, put an original back in.

Re: What is this?
The orignal's are not always the best solution. The vacuum has to work good on the system and even then it's not a sure thing. I put a manual valve in the heater line also to ensure good cold AC in the summer. The manual valve is a good 10* cooler in the cab if the vacuum valve isn't working properly.
If you don't have AC then it want matter!
