New to the forum
Recently acquired a 51 Chevy 1/2 ton truck. 2nd owner! Hasn't been started in 7 years. I'restored 3 Mustangs in last 5 years and wanted to try something totally different, that being said, know very little on Chevys and trucks. 216, 3'on the tree, all original, all there

Congrat's on the new/old 51, truck looks not to bad, nice you have a few rebuilds under your belt w the Mustang's, same but different, may enjoy cruising a bit more in a truck. Keep us posted on the build, we like to see the changes.

Thanks.
Have pulled plugs and fogged cylinders. Pulled valve cover and was amazed how clean it is. Cleaned up points. Picked up a 6 volt battery and will plan to turn her over this weekend. If she goes, will try some gas down the carb to see what happens. Then let the spending begin, fuel tank ( looks like tar is dripping, lol), prob a fuel pump, and then carb rebuild if needed. Then brakes,to stop the beast and then clutch?? I have gotten used to one step forward and three steps back, doing the Stangs..all costing money of course |

My Dad had a 5 window "50 when I was a kid, very neat!
I'm not all about perfectly restored vehicles or extremely Hot Rodded ones.Those pickups have a unique identity, to me, that you just don't experience any more, that is in their stock condition. A friend of mine has had bunches of those pickups through the years, his were all stock. It was cool to see him drive up to the parts store where I used to work, in one of his oldies, He would draw a lot of attention! Have fun!!! In a case like yours, I usually remove the plugs and fill the cylinders with automatic trans fluid, and let it sit, for at least a week. Of course I make sure the engine will turn through a couple of complete rotations easily before hitting the starter! |
