Hello, all. I was recently in Alaska and while I was there I saw several 60-70s Chevrolet and Ford trucks with totally different taillights than what we've got here in the lower 48. I saw a 67 Chevy with those taillights and a tailgate with what appears to be previous generation's carry over parts. The pictures are while on the road and rushed so apologies for the lack of quality. I've researched the web and this forum but find no details for anything "Canadian Only" or related to Alaska. Maybe Russian versions? Do any of you have any input on these...? BTW, my first post

My not have been a special made truck. Trucks this old have been through many owners and could have been in a crash then put on whatever bed was available at the time.

Have to see more of the pic to really get a handle on it. Can you run back up to Alaska and hunt them down? If you aren't busy that is.

Those beds were for different countries mostly. These trucks in Mexico had the same beds/tailgates. Pic is from a Mexican square, but you get the idea.

Mexican built '67-'72 Fleetsides use the '60-'66 tail lights. I believe GM de Mexico produced their own cargo boxes. Notice the inner bed sides? Could a Mexican C/20 have made it that for north?

I appreciate those pics of the Mexican rigs. The blue truck in the bottom of the original post was a 70s Ford. It has the same kind of thing. See it has two red lenses and one clear one on the right for reverse. I'm wondering if any of our Canadian brothers can respond to whether or not they've seen these beds in the Yukon. Mexico is a long way to haul trucks when closer factories existed.

Are there that many examples of these up there? Because you gotta remember people do relocate and generally they drove a vehicle to their destination. Plus who knows what kind of scheme someone may have come up with to get those up there. Some used car salesman buying trucks cheap in Mexico and shipping them up a truckload at a time.

The tailight thing kind of makes sense though. Standards for lighting and reflectors vary a bit between countries, even today. Just use a different die to punch out the rear of the panel Although it does appear this is more of a cost cutting measure as the tailights are simpler in design. Plus the 1st gen C10 tailgate latches are probably cheaper overall than the 2nd gen mechanism. Maybe that's what they needed to do to be competitive south of the border.

What I have seen built in Canadian plants look the same as in USA. That Chevy looks similar to the Mexican but it's not the same sheetmetal. It's, for whatever reason, a '67 with an adapted 60-66 tailgate and tail lamps. Custom, prototype? I dunno.

The Ford looks like a unibody. The bed was much more stylish than the regular truck.

Sure looks like a mexican C10 to me.

I have to say that with living here in Anchorage Alaska for over 50 years . I have not seen these trucks before. I have been into the 67 - 72 trucks since 1975 so where are these at ?
I will do some checking if I know where to look.

As I looked at the pics better I know exactly where that picture of the orange truck was taken. Hell ! That is in my town . Across from a good friends shop there in the back ground.

Hey, vics stuff, the C10 was spotted in Anchorage and the Ford was seen near the airport in Nome.

After reading Special-K's post I did a little digging and saw more posts from him! Lol. Mexican trucks are definitely different than the truck pictured above with an additional bodyline on the bed and different tailights. The orange truck above is just a 1967 with earlier tailights and gate for whatever reason.
