Help identifying rear diff/axle
Hello Everyone
I picked up a 1962 C-10 a few weeks ago and noticed the speedometer gear housing was leaking fluid. I pulled the housing to realize it was cracked (plastic). I would like to replace the housing and also confirm the gears needed. I currently have a red 17 tooth gear drive and would like to match it with the correct driven gear. To do this I am trying to determine what rear diff I have. I know it is a 10 bolt but I cannot locate the ID numbers on the passenger side axle. Can anyone provide some help? I did note a code "MA 403" shown in the red circle. Does that mean anything? Thanks for the help. |

Re: Help identifying rear diff/axle
That is correct.
It more than likely has 3.90 gears as that is the most common. The only other ratio it could be is 3.38. If you want to know for sure, simply pull the rear cover. The gear oil more than likely needs to be changed as differentials are one of the most neglected parts of a vehicle. All it will cost you is a cover gasket and a couple quarts of 75W90 gear oil.

Re: Help identifying rear diff/axle
Not Frankenstein with that, 60-62 had those and some earlier too.

Re: Help identifying rear diff/axle
The Eaton HO32/33 differential was used from '55 second design thru '62.
