Door sill plate material?

What are the door sill plates originally made out of on a 1964 c10? I see that the aftermarket has chrome-plated steel and stainless...

The PO painted mine, and I would like to clean them up and polish if they're stainless originally.

Thank you.

Re: Door sill plate material?

I think they are steel I have stripped mine a couple of times, then they rust with any type of moisture, so I repaint mine
Hope this helps.
Here is one of mine, stripped and wire wheeled. I didn't paint them as I liked the lok of it being polished, but they got wet and started to rust but you can see the original material.

The original sill plates were just chromed steel.

Mine were plain steel, now chromed. If stainless they won't be magnetic. If in good shape have them chromed, litte more than aftermarket but real GM. Or they got chrome paint and powder coat.

Re: Door sill plate material?

Anyone here in Arizona priced getting the sill plates chromed? I would call Papago Plating, but I don't live in Phoenix and if they need to see them it's kind of hard to do

Re: Door sill plate material?

If you could find an original set good enough to have plated, having them plated here in my area would likely cost $250-300.......that's no joke!
