6 cyl vs. 8 cyl crossmember differences
This question came up in the LS swap section and I wanted to post it here for more visibility. Does anyone know the difference between the 6 cylinder and the 8 cylinder engine cross members ? Another member couldn't get his LS motor to fit and the maker of the engine mounts he was using said he may have a 6 cylinder crossmember instead of the 8 cylinder one. I'm wondering if I have the same thing. How can you tell the difference? Thanks!

I'm not aware of a difference in crossmembers. There is a difference in the towers for the motor mounts.

Four wheel drive trucks with an original 292 had a diagonal X-member [more forward on the Passenger side] to accomodate the asymetrical 292's motor mounts. These cross-members are hard to find now. L6 292 in K/ trucks only.
Two wheel drive [C/ trucks] only had different towers for the 292. Other L6s used the same mounts, either side.

Thanks for the input guys. So if I understand this correctly, the only difference in a 2wd c10 between the V8 and the I6 is the motor mount perches, the actual cross members are identical. Thanks for setting me straight.
