What would happen if.....?
My power steering hasn't worked for awhile now and I have been doing it manually for some time. No fluid, no belt going to it. What would happen if I disconnected the lines where it goes into the steering shaft and just put a jumper in there? Just like a 8 inch piece of hose with the flare fittings on them and just go from one right to the other.

I've done that before, no problems with it.

It'll steer just as hard as it does now, so if you're doing it now, it should be OK. I would recommend putting fluid in it, though, to keep things lubed.

Re: What would happen if.....?
Yes, definitely have some fluid in there. I recall the steering felt notchy with no fluid.

Re: What would happen if.....?
I have remover the power set up from a power steering box and it is measurably harder to turn than Non power steering box.
I suggest you either fix the power steering box which is better or convert completly to a non power steering set up which is simpler. each workes equally well and has equal merrit |
