Distributor is moving out of its zone
Alright
When I drive the truck multiple times the timing moves and starts to choke down? I am so confused on this as I have tried to think of some things that could cause this anyone have a clue?

Re: Distributor is moving out of its zone
is the hold down clamp tight? if you have to keep turning the dist back to the same position each time it sounds like the clamp isn't holding

Re: Distributor is moving out of its zone
Quote:
The second clamp is for the fine tuning, The flat one with the degree notches. This is called an Octane selector. Its sole function is to advance or retard the timing a few degrees according to the octane of the gas you were running. Main timing is done by the collar clamp mentioned above. Frist set the octane selector to the center line matched to the line on the block. tighten that screw. Loosen the screw on the collar and set the timing pointer to the ball on the flywheel and clamp the collar tight. If its loose the dist. will rotate on its own and get out of time. The screw is sometimes hidden behind the grease cup on the side of the dist. If it pings a little or you want a little more power you adjust the octane selector in what ever direction you need. |

Re: Distributor is moving out of its zone
The distributor is supposed to move a little due to the Vacuum Advance but I don't have a hold down clamp and never have.

Re: Distributor is moving out of its zone
can you turn it by hand with it tight? the only other part that could cause this is the pin that holds the gear on the shaft has sheared.

Re: Distributor is moving out of its zone
You can get a rebuilt for rockauto but It may just be a $0.50 roll pin that needs replacing.
