Crankshaft replacement
Hi folks, happy labour day !!
I wish to change my crankshaft, as mine is a bit worn. I would like to find a stock replacement or a cast crankshaft, no need in my view to search for a forged one (Engine is a bbc 402). My crankshaft casting is 3804816NF (maybe 5 as the last digit). So guys do you know where I can find Crankshaft at a reasonable price ? I plan to come back in mid October in San Francisco, Reno, Vegas and LA, so, if there are some good dealers around there... Have a great Sunday ! |

Re: Crankshaft replacement
Your number confirms as a big block cast crank...
3804816....396,402,427... These should be readily available in LA area,,,, Your original crank could be machined undersize...assuming it is a standard size now, it would most likely clean up at 010 under or 020 under. Remember to check your connecting rods journal for out of round...when a crank gets like yours, the big ends of the rods usually end up out of round... Oversize bearings are readily available and machining should be available in France...just remember the dimensions are not metric...they are US ! |

Re: Crankshaft replacement
X2 on just taking the crankshaft you have to a machine shop and having it turned down. As long as it hasn't all ready been done before.

Re: Crankshaft replacement
Yeah but in France, machining is about 400 Dollars for a 8 cylinders, well above retail price of a new crank...
