60-66 GMC or Chevy, grey interior?

I have a radio delete plate for my truck and it has a light grey color to it. Was this an option? I thought everything got the fawn color.

Re: 60-66 GMC or Chevy, grey interior?

I am wondering the same thing. My interior appears to be more of a grayish/silver color than the brownish/silver fawn color I see in most pics. I believe it is original but you never know. Below is a pic of my interior.

I know a long time back I read in a thread here the 64-66s all had fawn interiors. All I can offer is anecdotal information. About 25 years ago I owned a '65 that had a silver interior. As far as I could tell it was unmolested at that point. So I'm thinking a few snuck through the factory that way.

Thanks for those pictures!

I was told some time ago that most were fawn and maybe one or two assembly plants painted the interiors with a gray but I don't know who told me that.

Re: 60-66 GMC or Chevy, grey interior?

Just an update: I was installing an oil pressure gauge today and I took the opportunity to take a real close look at the interior paint. I believe it was fawn at one time, they took a good amount of care painting the interior but there was a small area between the firewall and the gvw/paint code plate that was fawn in color.

Re: 60-66 GMC or Chevy, grey interior?

It varied by year, and by make -- Chevy and GMC didn't always share the same color the same year.

That, however, is the limit of my knowledge. I don't know where or if it's documented which makes had which color which years.

GMC kept the same light silver finish for all 6 years of their run.

1962-1966 Chevy AND GMC are Fawn Randy , color fade, repaint or too harsh a chemical is the only explanation for silver in anything other than 1960-1961 trucks, period !

B
It has been documented on this site for years along with every data book I own from 60-66. FAWN is the color 62-66 Chevy and GMC period ! Silver is 60-61 Only. Yes GMC had some dark grey, green dash tops only and 66 had a brown only dash but everything else in the 62-66s was FAWN

Jon I beg to differ someone has painted the inside black and everywhere it's peeling or coming off it's silver even the steering wheel is silver and the inside doors are SILVER...THER IS NO FAWN COLOR WHATSOEVER INSIDE OF THIS CAB...I don't know if these pixs show enough, but I will take some more pixs. even the floor is silver...

Re: 60-66 GMC or Chevy, grey interior?

Ok I took some more pixs and the only place that there might have been just a hint of that fawn color is inside of the glove box, but still looked kinda silver... the floor board looks silver to me and so does the steering wheel, even below the rear window where the black paint it looks silver....my Gosh is it faded that bad.....I surely hope we get this all settled...LOL...

Re: 60-66 GMC or Chevy, grey interior?

Theres absolutely NOTHING to settle Randy. Only ONE color was EVER used in your 64-66 ? truck. If anyone at anytime used too strong of a cleaner like simple green or purple power it will almost immediately change the color. Your already saying you see a hint of fawn , these trucks like yours were used hard and put away wet. I can positively show you in books and low mile survivors the color fawn. What shocks me the most is that this is still a debate ? Its been proven , documented repeatedly on this and every other site you visit. Not picking on you , I'm just getting tired of having to prove obvious facts that I'm very positive of , seems lately like everybody is trying to rewrite the facts on these trucks .

No arguments here Jon, If and whenever I get to repaint mine I might just go with the green that I've been using or who knows, I do like that fawn color to....

60-61's were silver interiors. 62-66 were fawn interiors. All, Chevy and GMC's. Anything else is faded or repainted.

Wondering why that fact is so hard to get across to people.

The horse is already dead. Please stop beating it. Members like 60-66 are hear to help. And when they speak it's like your not listening. Very frustrating. Life could be so much simpler if people would just take advise from people with knowledge, like Jon.

No need to get all riled up. I conceded and said it must be faded. get over it already

I'd guess it's because evidently the fawn fades to silver remarkably well. Couple that with most people not having factory documents to refer to, and you get people who honestly believe something to be true that you know to be false.

Re: 60-66 GMC or Chevy, grey interior?

You can search the Facts section , the restoration section etc , its been posted over and over again and in many builds. Heres the facts from the 1964 Data book. The fawn color is spelled out in all 1962-1965 Data books , 1966 has a change with a Dark Fawn dash. I have and others have posted these pictures many times.

I do hope you didn't take my statement as a challenge, i appreciate all the information you and others share here. I was attempting to give an explanation as to why it comes up periodically and people claim to have a unicorn. Looking at pictures in this thread I can conseed that the truck I spoke of was likely just faded.

I did search for the documents in this forum and came up empty, admittedly I picked titles I thought suited the topic. Sadly I had no idea there is a fact or restoration section here. So I do appreciate you reposting them here.

I can tell this is a touchy subject, I didn't mean to stir anything up. Look outside this thread at others, most are questions and conversations that have taken place many times prior.
