LED tail lights

I'm wanting to put LED tail lights on the old brute. I see basically 2 kinds available.
1 an LED/tail lens combo unit. I worry about this because should the lens get hit and broken, you lose the whole light.

2 a separate LED panel that appears to go behind the stock lens.

Has anyone had good/bad experiences with either design?

I'm currently using number 1 and have no issues. I'm running LED's all around my 68

Thanks tmontg01. I've ran through a lot of threads on search and don't really see any complaining. I'm researching different lights that I can fab in behind the stock lens. Prices aren't going to be much different than if I were to buy one of these. I'm working on some friends I know that maybe can help on the price. If that works out, fabbing in will be the route. I've never seen any of these lights offered in the catalogs so I am curious as to longevity and toughness of the construction. Lots of bumps and dirt roads in my world.

I just installed the LED lens/tail light combo and am very pleased with them. If you get hit in the rear I doubt the old 1157 bulb would survive the impact.

Your third option is to buy 1156's and 1157's as LED's I use them and they seem to be fine.
If either of your options gets hit, you lose it all.

I have the ones that go behind your lens.they have been in for 5 years and I go down dirt road and use truck as daily driver during winter.they work great and have never had a problem with them.they also have the rapid fire option and we like that.
