67 4x4 questions
Did 67 1/2 ton 4x4 have a factory 3 speed manual column shifted transmission? If they did are they specific to that vehicle and are they around? What transfer cases can be used in 67 1/2 ton? Looking at 67 truck missing engine, trans. and transfer case and looking for options for drivetrain.

Re: 67 4x4 questions
I can answer the tcase question. The Rockwell T-221 was used in both the 67 Gmc and chevy. These are hard to find in excellent/rebuilt condition. Gaskets have to be hand made. Bearings are aveilable, not as a kit. They have to be ordered separately. The rear idler shaft bearing is a real pain to find. Good gears and shalfts are made out of unobatanium.
Lots go with the 205, mainly b/c of the above reasons. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: 67 4x4 questions
Yes the column 3 speed was standard on 4x4 '67s. It is one rare bird as most 4x4 were ordered with the granny low SM420 4 speed. I had an original 250 six 3 speed 4x4 K10 30+ years ago. The transmission is 4x4 specific (output shaft and extension housing) but I can't for the life of me remember which transmission was in the truck, Saginaw or a Warner (??) As rare is that transmission is i'd be willing to bet somebody on the board here could set you up with the pieces to return the truck back to original.

Re: 67 4x4 questions
I have a 67 K10, it came with the three on the tree, 3rd gear was wiped, so I pulled the old style Saginaw trans and put a SM465 in it. I used a later adapter and kept my T221. New couplers for the SM465 to T221 are impossible to find. I cut down a NP205 coupler and matched up seals to make up the diameter difference. NO leaks. This board is a great reference.

Re: 67 4x4 questions
My opinion, but you would be crazy to try and get all of those parts that are missing on what is a fairly hard to come by combination.
Just get an SM465 and NP205 from a later truck. Easier to get, stronger, more reliable, and more flexible with the granny gear.

Re: 67 4x4 questions
The NP 205 is not stronger or more reliable than a T221. Parts may be easier to kind, but there is nothing wrong with the T221's low gear, either.

Re: 67 4x4 questions
No beefs with the 221 from me, but he is missing all the original engine, trans and T-case. Just WAY easier to get that combo from a square body and move forward from there.

Re: 67 4x4 questions
I believe you need to move cross members and the driveshaft center bering mount when converting to the 205
