Recommend me an alternator bracket
quite a while ago I replaced the alternator in my truck and because it is a different configuration than stock it has very little throw. Roughly just enough room to get a finger between the valve cover and the alt body. It is a pain to find the right belt and squeeze it on and still have enough throw to tension it properly, especially after the belt stretches.
This summer I put a vintage air system in the truck and the compressor mounts nice a wide and is easy to get and tension a belt. This got me to thinking that there has to be a alternator bracket that will move the alternator out to a similar position as the compressor. Can anyone point me in the right direction for an alternator bracket that is not billet aluminum at will get me a little... or a lot of extra throw on a short water pump. No thread is complete without a couple pictures. |

Try Alan Grove brackets.
http://www.alangrovecomponents.com/S...Short_Pump.htm They may actually make the brackets for Vintage Air.

Re: Recommend me an alternator bracket
Think you can split alt and turn it 1/4 turn and put back together.Pretty easy, think that would give you bunches of adjustment then.

Re: Recommend me an alternator bracket
Keep what you got and lengthen the top bracket about 2 inches.
Easy job for a welder. |

Re: Recommend me an alternator bracket
I agree, the two halves of the case are clocked wrong. Reclock the case and Ta Dah you'll have lots of adjustment.

Re: Recommend me an alternator bracket
Thanks for the help and ideas. The alt is not able to be clocked, the front half of the case with the mounting points are is one piece.
I like the welder Idea, I should have thought of that... I've got one! |

Re: Recommend me an alternator bracket
69-82 Corvettes use the same setup and they have a longer upper bracket that should move the alternator out to the side and down a little.

Re: Recommend me an alternator bracket
should be no problem locating a belt that will fit. you wont find one by part number, if you have not already but they come in half inch increments so finding one that fits should not be a problem.
cant see what your lower braket looks like but that may also contribute to your problems. I thought re clocking the alternator front half was an excellent idea................ |

Re: Recommend me an alternator bracket
The best solution is upgrade to a 94amp 90's Buick Riviera alternator. It's got the right mount for the stock truck alternator brackets.
