lower steering column bearing?
I just got a new lower column bearing, looking in the bearing i can see the balls. They appear to have a small amount of grease on them, but there seems like a lot of space for more grease. I am thinking i should pack this bearing like a wheel bearing. Is that correct?

Re: lower steering column bearing?
I don't think a little extra grease can hurt.
I did mine with a bushing because I've seen a few of them over the years with chewed up shafts. Seems like some would ignore all the crunching and just keep on going. Mine had also failed causing some damage to the shaft but didn't matter because it got changed out for a 2 piece. |

Re: lower steering column bearing?
I don't have a manual but figure if that spring underneath is compressed about half way it is good. Just to be sure there is a clamp underneath to hold the spring up, is that correct?

my spring was barely compressed, i think that caused a lot of play. that spring is pretty strong, i probably will have to think of a way to compress it.

Needle nose vice grips should do it.
