Source for Carpet?
Has anyone had luck in finding a decent carpet kit? I'm at that stage in my retromod on a '65 and want a good quality carpet

Re: Source for Carpet?
After investigating this myself, I found most carpet is made in the USA by A.C.C. (Auto Custom Carpet). From there it gets sold thru different vendors. Bearing that in mind I simply looked for the best deal, verified it was made by ACC, and made my purchase. I chose the "mass backed" option so it was a nice heavy chunk o' carpet. It wasn't a perfect fit as it was a tad narrow at the kick panels. However, it was close enough for the money and usage I put it thru. The pic shows where it came up short. It's a little better on the other side, and it could have just been the installer (me). Whatever though, it was my first try. My second go-round in my longbed came out closer but still has that gap at the divot in the kick panel.

Re: Source for Carpet?
I used ACC carpet kits on my last several projects, including a 63 Tempest and Riviera restoration projects, and my C10. Stock Interiors has some of the best pricing along with the largest selection of color and type. Here's the ACC carpet that I recently laid out in my cab.

Re: Source for Carpet?
I have the ACC stuff in my 66 and it has held up pretty good with 4 years of daily driving.

ACC is the best available. Everything else (imported) is junk.

Re: Source for Carpet?
I didn't get the extra backing (I had installed sound and thermal barrier on the floor of my cab). The width of the carpet in the footwell area from kick panel to kick panel was perfect in my case. I had to glue a couple of small pieces of what I trimmed from the width at the door sills in the little divot area at the floor/kick panel transition between the door opening and vents.

Re: Source for Carpet?
Yes, ACC kit from Stock Interiors. The back panel carpet piece works well, but I would recommend using additional industrial strength velcro in the low spots. Let it set in the sun for awhile before installing it to get the carpet to relax a little so it will form around the corrugated pattern (same as I did for the main carpet piece) a bit easier.

Re: Source for Carpet?
ACC is it. They will send you samples for free too.
I had good results and price using OC Carpet.com Mine was about 3/4" too narrow in the kick panel area too. Also, wish there was more going up the firewall. I bought extra matching carpet and made my own firewall pad.

Re: Source for Carpet?
Check www.rockauto.com . They have even better prices then stock interiors. Same ACC Carpet. I just ordered some for my Mustang. It was $183 shipped and that is the carpet with Mass Backing. Without Mass Backing It would be around $140 shipped. I got the 80/20 loop https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/...,flooring,1264

Re: Source for Carpet?
It's ACC Carpet. If you want to save an extra 5% use this code in the "How did you hear about us" box 9594760291389246

Re: Source for Carpet?
I'm happy with the quality of ACC carpet from Stock Interiors but it's about 1/2" too narrow in the foot well area on both sides. It's not noticeable in the picture because I also used the ACC kick panels. I had to add a 1/4" shim behind the bottom edge of each kick panel to close up the gap completely. The carpet is not laying completely flat in this pic because I had just completed the install. The carpet flattened-out quickly.

Re: Source for Carpet?
I called the a few weeks ago about they're being too narrow. They stated that's the way GM did it so that's the way they are doing it. Did these come with carpet? And too narrow?

The kick panels came with carpet. Even with the carpet, they are only about 1/4" thick which is not enough to close up the 1/2" gap at the edge of the carpet. This is why I had to add a 1/4" shim behind the bottom edge of the kick panels. Last edited by mfm3; 11-11-2018 at 05:07 PM. |
