Re: 63 Blue Badge Trucks
There's a set of 65 C10 blue emblems on eBay right now. So far, I've been unable to verify any 60-66 trucks came with blue emblems, nothing in the factory literature. I'm thinking it may have been a popular owner or dealer mod back in the day.

Re: 63 Blue Badge Trucks
Or it also could have been a dealer add on for a specific upgraded truck!

Re: 63 Blue Badge Trucks
Only one part number for each series/model. I'd think there would be different part numbers if the factory used both red and blue. GM used specific/unique part numbers for everything.

Re: 63 Blue Badge Trucks
Is there a way to decode the numbers on the badge?

Re: 63 Blue Badge Trucks
The numbers on the right are the series/model. C/K 10, 20, 30, etc. The numbers in the left column are the GM part numbers.

Re: 63 Blue Badge Trucks
Badge color for 63`s where red from what I can gather. My vague understanding is that chevy often uses blue for special editions, etc. Could that be a possibility?

Re: 63 Blue Badge Trucks
The mechanic who identified it did say something about the cam in it as well as it doesn't have an external harmonic balancer (?) and taller valve covers. He also mentioned that the engine numbers matched the vin.

Re: 63 Blue Badge Trucks
Oh, and that the paint code is chevy pure white. That seemed to have some sort of significance.

Re: 63 Blue Badge Trucks
Sorry, but the blue badge thing is not real. somewhere along the line somebody put some blue paint in the badge recess, wiped off the excess, and that's about all there is to it.
My silly quip regarding roller cam engines is in regards to another thread here wherein an owner swears up and down his truck came factory equipped with a roller cam. Kinda hard to believe since that technology had not yet been invented. Others here kinda beat that guy up pretty bad, and now I go and join in on the blanket party. Shame on me. Fun on one level, but mostly sad. I really hope thats the end of that. |

Re: 63 Blue Badge Trucks
Thanks for all the information, not a problem at all. However... the interesting thing is, the gentleman who gave us the most information and called it a blue badge truck, did so not knowing that it came with blue badges painted or otherwise. The badges are off the truck, at my sons home, and my son never mentioned them to the gentleman. That just seems odd. I also was able to get in contact with a previous owner who's father owned it to his knowledge since 1970, then gave it him. He said his dad said it was special but he never knew why. He had it untill 2014. Yes very circumstantial, yet interesting to say the least.

Re: 63 Blue Badge Trucks
Looks like the blue badge is going to be like the roller cam.

Re: 63 Blue Badge Trucks
Again, thanks for the info and ideas. My son and a few colleagues in the engineering department at his school checked them out and found them to be original and untouched except for modern paint on the very bottom of one of them. Again not saying that means anything but seems like a lot of work and trouble for someone to go through approximately 55 years ago.

Re: 63 Blue Badge Trucks
Understood. Yet still interesting that a random late 60 year old mechanic asked my son, "by any chance, did this truck happen to come with blue badges?" Then proceeded to explain the "history" of the truck.
According to the gentlemen who got the truck passed down to him by his brother. When he took possession of the truck at or around 2000. The badges where in the glove box where my son found them. |

Re: 63 Blue Badge Trucks
I'm in to see where this goes. Very interesting find regardless of if they are original GM or repainted early on in life.

Re: 63 Blue Badge Trucks
My response was sarcasm as a lot of people have abused the "you could get anything you want" phrase when it comes to these trucks . 1967 or 1968 is the first year for blue paint in a factory emblem. Before that it was 20s and 30s with blue porcelain bowties. nothing 1960-1966 C10-C30 had blue paint. I doubt very much that any dealer would spend the time to paint emblems when the red ties into the hubcaps . Definitely a "custom" touch but not factory

Re: 63 Blue Badge Trucks
Understood. I have a 69. However, according to the records person at chevy corporate I talked to. They did do special celebratory runs of vehicles historically with blue badges but "our records only go back untill 1977 so it is plausible."
