How effective is Dynomat on floor/firewall only?
Took the 70 out for a spin today. The road/engine noise makes having a conversation with the passenger a little difficult (*note it has the 250 and rubber floor liner) at speeds above 50mph.
I have seen a lot of people install dynomat and was wondering if anyone could really tell me if doing a basic (no door or behind fuel tank) install can make a difference. I am just wondering if its worth doing the floor-under seat and behind the firewall will be worth the time and money. Tks ~JH |

Re: How effective is Dynomat on floor/firewall only?
Dynomat and similar products are just a vibration damper and does very little to block road/engine noise. It is good at stopping rattles and vibrations and you don't need 100% coverage. 25% per sq.ft. is adequate. These products are only part of the equation if you want to quite down the cab. Do a search here for "Soundeadner Showdown " and read the entire article.

^^^ This. Mat is not insulation, it's panel dampening. It doesn't block road noise or tire noise or anything like that... for that, you need insulation.

I guess something is better than nothing.
I did all mine during the tank relocation and transmission swap. Damplifier Pro and Luxury Liner pro everywhere I would reach. Made a huge difference in road noise

Re: How effective is Dynomat on floor/firewall only?
Dynomat = Vibration reduction
Closed cell Aluminized insulation = heat/cold and noise reduction Mass Load Vinyl (MLV) = noise reduction. I used all of this on the floors, firewall, back wall and the doors. MLV does not like to adhere to vertical surfaces and should be mechanically attached. I ended up pulling it out of the doors because I couldn't get it to stick to the interior sheet metal. All said it works pretty good for noise and heat. One thing that you'll never get rid of in these trucks is the wind noise. These things are basically a brick moving through the air and they make noise. Here's some picks of mine.

Nice job Z10! Definitely the right way to do it. Did you just use electrical tape to attach the MLV to it's self?

Definitely following the your model! How far did you go up behind gas tank, rear window and even up into roof area?

Re: How effective is Dynomat on floor/firewall only?
I don't know about the other types of insulation and sound deadener, I used Lizard Skin on my last truck. The heat coating and sound coating. I used it exactly like you asked about, on the floor and firewall. It made a big difference. So if that's the only areas you want to put whatever type of sound/heat barrier you decide on I think you will be happy. And if its not quite where you want it you can always coat more just like others have done in this thread.

Re: How effective is Dynomat on floor/firewall only?
I just finished mine this morning. I used Dynamat Extreme throughout the cab then used Dynaliner on the rear and under the seat
