Need help to identify my engine
Need help to identify my engine.
It is a 6-inline and is installed in a 1952 GMC 253-22, but I'm pretty sure it is not the original engine. I found a number located directly beside the engine oil dip stick. Number is: B228370750 maybe the last digit is a C instead of the 0. Thanks Martin |

Re: Need help to identify my engine
post a picture of each side and the valve cover
The number comes out to a 1952 228 cubic inch GMC motor |

Re: Need help to identify my engine
Thanks.
I had read that there is a 216 installed in the 1952 GMC 253-22. But it seems to be wrong. Nevertheless I will takesome photos of the engine and will post them tomorrow |

Re: Need help to identify my engine
216 is chevy motor. GMC had its own truck motor until the early 60's
if it is a 216 then its not original |

47-5? GMC got 228, 248 or 270 cubic inch engines, never got a 216. dwcsr is right, the first three numbers tell you the engine displacement of a GMC motor, the leading letter is the main bearing clearance corresponding to a list. your engine number to me indicates its the original engine, replacement GMC 228 are usually zero'd or X'd out or just plain blank past the displacement.

Re: Need help to identify my engine
Hello!
Here are the photos I have taken today. I guess it is the right, maybe original, engine. The manual, where I had read the normal engine size for 1952 GMC pick up is 216cui is definately wrong Martin |

Re: Need help to identify my engine
Definitely a 1952 GMC 228
The problem with identifying GMC is that they didn't go strictly by year like Chevy did. They used serial numbers not VIN numbers that would fall in a particular year. B228370750 was 1952 but B228370749 could have been 1951 and register both as 1952's or 1951's depending on what state or country it was registered in. |
