Lowest Static Drop (But Functional)
I am starting on a new project where we are converting C60 to C10. We have an original 8000 mile fire truck tanker and are repurposing cab, hood, engine, and transmission to assemble a c10 swb.
For the chassis we want to stay with static drop, but wanted to call on some of the experience out there. What is the lowest drop that can be done and still be "driveable" using static lowering parts? We want to stay traditional and not cut up frame (other than c notch) if possible. Can anyone share what has worked for them or are using currently including what manufacturers? |

With out c-notch 3/4 drop, lower than that you can't carry anything with out bottoming out.

My truck is 5 1/2 in the front and 6 in the rear.
It could use a c-notch for the rear. |

5/7 here. Plenty usable but I do need to install that c-notch as I only have roughly 3/4" uptravel. I only hit on big bumps though.

Mine is 4 1/2 front and 5 1/2 in the rear and it is my daily driver and I use it as a truck.

CPP drop spindles and drop springs Porterbuilt C notch and rear drop springs Not as low as I would like but its got a full bed and still fully functional.

The Mule is a 4 1/2 front and 6" rear. No C-notch. I have carried things, but you must go REAL slow and careful to not bottom out. I plan on a c-notch some day, I just have not stopped driving it enough to take time to do it.

Somewhere around where my old '66 sat was about as low as you can go static and still be drivable. There was only 1.5" between the inner fender and top of the front tire, and about 3" before the crossmember bottomed out. Small pipe notch in the rear, shorter than a bolt in notch to keep more frame strength. The diff will hit the bed floor before the axles use up all of a bolt-in notch, so I'd rather have a small pipe notch that keeps more of the frame rail height.

Thanks everyone for your input. I really like the stance of theastronaut has on the 66. I am going to try to get in that low of a zone with static drop.
For what i want to accomplish, I think i will start with 2 1/2" drop spindles and then 3" drop springs out front. I may even get way over the top and order set of PB 1" narrow and 1" forward A-Arms to correct angles. In rear it sounds like 5" drop spring and up to 2" block will work the best. Looking at Dead End Garage C-Notch and track bar combo if i need the additional clearance for suspension travel. |
