4 wire cruise switch
I need the function for the 4 wires in the early GM cruise switch. I've got everything else lined up, but I need to verify which wire does which function for the yellow, red, green, and brown wires for this lever. In some old posts, I've seen switches that have a blue wire instead of brown. Anyone?

Re: 4 wire cruise switch
Are you sure it's a factory switch? Factory switches don't have a brown wire, but many aftermarket ones do. What are you hooking this up to?

Re: 4 wire cruise switch
Check this link. It shows the cruise switch I'm talking about; http://chevythunder.com/fuel%20injec...ntrl%20pg2.htm
EDIT; I misread your question and though you had the old 3-wire. Never mind !!! :-) Last edited by hemi43; 12-14-2017 at 12:00 PM. |

Re: 4 wire cruise switch
ls1nova71, yes, it's an aftermarket switch. Its going in my Jimmy, which has a 6.0 LS motor and it's DBW. I've got my TAC wires set aside, but just don't know what the function is for the switch wires.

Re: 4 wire cruise switch
It appears that some people had to use the relays and some didn't. Are the relays just if you're running LED brake lights?

Re: 4 wire cruise switch
The relays are for when you're using an aftermarket switch. If you're using a factory switch they are normally open switches, but aftermarket switches are normally closed, so the relays are used to reverse the switches. You will need them to use the switch you have, just wire it like the way it shows in the link I provided.

Re: 4 wire cruise switch
Are you using a factory switch or a dash mounted one?

Re: 4 wire cruise switch
I'm using an original Blazer turn signal handle with a late model 4 wire switch installed into it. It's wired directly to the TAC module.
The schematic of the switch I posted was to show the OP the colors of the wires and their function . Last edited by hemi43; 12-15-2017 at 12:14 PM. |

Re: 4 wire cruise switch
Wire coloring is irrelevant, it's the switches inside that matter, and the fact is that aftermarket column mounted switches are different than factory GM switches. Factory GM switches are normally open type switches, meaning no power flows through them until the switch is activated, either by pushing a button or sliding the switch. Those type can be wired directly to a TAC and will work exactly like factory, because they are. Aftermarket switches, with the exception of the DD dash mounted one, are normally closed switches, so you will be sending power to the TAC all the time, not what needs to happen for it to work. The link I posted shows how to wire in relays to reverse the switches to give the correct signals to the TAC to make it function. If you want to use a column mounted aftermarket switch, be it Dakota Digital, Rostra, or who ever else sells the same switch, you must use the relays, there's no other way around it.

This is a factory 4 wire switch that was used in the later trucks beforr they went to column mounted dimmer switch columns. It's the only NOS one I have ever had, and before anyone asks, no, it's not for sale.

Again, the wiring schematic I posted of the 4-wire switch above with CORRECT colors was for the OP to have something to reference to when checking his aftermarket one. Most aftermarket companies use GM wiring colors as standard, and chances are pretty good that his aftermarket switch will work perfectly without the need of relays (assuming his switch is normally open) A quick check with an Ohm meter will answer this question. |

Re: 4 wire cruise switch
My first attempt at wiring the cruise up worked like a charm. Very awesome to have cruise in a 45 year old truck! Thanks fellas. Y'all's instructions were perfect!

So which diagram did you use to wire it?

Re: 4 wire cruise switch
Hi All, really nice to see so much info but apparently my steering column is different.. It's a tilt but when I looked at the turn signal to pull it out, it does not have the set screw that I see in the pics posted, mine screws in...? Does that mean there is no way I can get my mine to work with cruise control for my 5.3 Vortech…? I sure hope I don't have to look for another steering column...

Re: 4 wire cruise switch
Can you post a pic of what you have? If it's a GM column it should work.
