Argent silver

In the past Ive painted some of my parts argent silver, step bumper, mirror arms, and Ive had ralleys painted that color too.

In the 67-72 run did the factory ever paint any of the outside trim pieces argent silver (mirror arms, bumpers etc. Not the side moldings) . Or was it only, white, body color, or chrome/stainless?

I swear I saw a brochure with argent bumpers on a truck, but the stuff on brochures isn't always what was actually available.

Re: Argent silver

'68 and '69 used argent trim color on bumpers, hubcaps, wheels, mirrors, grilles.

Tim,

How common were argent bumpers? I've never seen one factory; just white.

Thanks,

Jon

Re: Argent silver

This is the 69 argent. I'm sure most have seen it but might be good for those who haven't. I plan on painting my bumpers to match this.
Cheers!

Re: Argent silver

Yep, if everything else was argent I think they would also be. Look up '68 or '69 brochure pictures.

Re: Argent silver

Hewittca posted these on a recent thread. The orange truck was the one I was thinking of earlier.

Re: Argent silver

I think those mirrors look white and when I looked at the K/20 on the front of the '68 4wd brochure it has white Jr RV mirrors. It's bumper and grille accents are argent, but the 4wds (at least K/20s) came with no hubcaps and black wheels.

On my little barn I have the different caps alternated white and argent going up with GMC and Chevy alternated side to side. So, it starts with '67, then '68, then 70-newer (because they are white), then '69 for 1/2t. Since 1/2 and 3/4t 67/68s look the same I only have one in each color. Then it goes to 8-lug caps carrying through the alternating colors

Re: Argent silver

That’s what I’ve always thought, the jr’s were only available in white.

Re: Argent silver

My early '69 3/4 ton CST's wheels were white from day 1. The truck came with 16.5" wheels. I'm not sure if that matters or if it was a 3/4 ton thing only. I don't recall seeing any base trim '69 3/4 tons with argent bumpers. Again, the 1/2 tons may have been argent. For some reason, perhaps to upgrade someone else's purchase, my truck had a white bumper when I bought the truck. I verified with GM that the CSTs should have had chrome and the dealer changed it to chrome.

Re: Argent silver

Hmmm... this is a vintage pic of my Dad's 68 GMC 910, and I recall the bumper always being white in the front and argent in the rear. Hubcaps were argent as well.

So unless this front bumper had already been repainted I suppose... were the fronts white or silver?

I think that '68 GMC's grille and bumper were both painted white. My '68 Chevy C/10 has white on the grille face and a white bumper. A rear step bumper is silver or aluminum spraypaint. Wheels were originally Argent Silver.
It's possible some '68 Chevies had Argent Silver painted on the inside grille louvers if the truck was overall Black. Normally, they were black, but that year they were into a contrasting color thing. I have a '68 grille off a Suburban, now on my '67 K/10 Sub. The '68 Sub was a metallic blue and its grille was Argent Silver. Looks OK on my white '67 K/10 Sub.

I have a '71 GMC, but I'm not really much of a GMC expert. The grille on my Jimmy is chrome w/o a black vertical stripe. Replaced maybe?

Re: Argent silver

I think in a conversation on this years ago here we came to the conclusion it wasn't all one or the other color in '68 or '69, but those are the only years that argent was used in place of white at all. It either depended on trim level, paint color, or mixture of both.

I had a base 3 option '69 C/20 Stepside that had special paint. The bumpers were white and the hubcaps were gone. Other than that 100% original and complete. The body was a light grey and tailgate letters were white. Wheels were 16.5 with original 8.75 tires. All five wheels were painted a dark red. There were factory looking chalk marks in the wheel barrels (on the red paint) when I took the tires off.
