61 Project

Looking at a 61 project. I like the look of a 61, but there seems to be a lack of aftermarket parts for them. Is a 61 not a good choice?

More now than than in the past.....just have to do the math and what your project needs and your goals are.....with that said you will need to to be more specific on what your looking at to restore...maybe some pictures so members can chime in on advice

Re: 61 Project

I’m having the same issues with my 61 Apache 30.

What are you wanting to do ? Now, you can do just about anything with 60-62's as you can with 64-66's. I prefer 60-63's, haven't run in to any roadblocks with them.

Re: 61 Project

I think because they are torsion bar setup is what doesn’t allow the same fitment.

Re: 61 Project

A 73-87 C10 front crossmember, complete, Will bolt into a 60-62 same as a 64-66. If you drive a torsion bar truck and a later coil spring truck, you’ll discover a torsion bar truck has a noticeably better ride. GM went to coil springs in 63 because they were cheaper, and a threatened lawsuit from Chrysler, not due to ride quality.

That was my plan to swap a 73-87 front crossmember. Sorry to hijack the thread.

A grill is one of the things I was looking for. I'm on vacation right now so I don't have access to my car logs, but noticed a pattern of thing that we're available for other years, but not 60-63

There are plenty of things but you have to know what your looking for. This forum will help you out. For a grill you will have to look at used parts for it. Aspen Auto is a good place to look for 60-62 parts.

Re: 61 Project

I have a frame off 60 that I am building. The only thing that's hard to find are rust free door and cabs. They do not make after market doors for 60-63 Or grills 60-63 There is 60-63 grills on the parts side of the forum. I have some grills and just bought another 1960 truck that I am going to put on the parts side soon.
