Shock Mount on Ubolt plate 82 GMC

I just finished flipping the rear axle on my 82 GMC c1500. The shock extensions won't work because the 10bolt is out of a 4x4. I found a 10bolt with 3.42 and an Eaton for $60 I couldn't pass up, 2wd axles have been swapped in.

It looks like there is room to weld a shock mount stud on the Ubolt plate, which is now on the bottom of the leaf pack. I've had cars in the past that were setup this way. Has anyone here done it this way.
