1989 suburban rear heat/ a/c

Was cruising my 89 suburban tonight and could smell antifreeze. My kid in the back said it was dripping from the roof in the rear. So we headed home, and I took the cover off in the rear. My heater core is no good, so figured it was time for a new one.

Here comes my problem. My rear heat and a/c share the same core. It looks just like the a/c evaporator. But has coolant lines running to it also. And I can't seem to find one anywhere. Is this a aftermarket deal? Any help on finding one is appreciated.

Re: 1989 suburban rear heat/ a/c

I guess I thought only the AC lines ran above. The factory heater (rare option), was mounted on the floor in a separate box. The coolant lines for that heater ran underneath the truck.

But if they are smelling coolant, that seems to point towards a heater.....

Re: 1989 suburban rear heat/ a/c

Sorry, no pics. I took it out and had a radiator shop fix it. And put it back together already. But it is a a/c evaporator and heater core all in one. Wasn't sure if this was factory or a after thought kind of deal.

But thanks for trying to help

Agreed. I don't think that was on OEM unit..
