67 SWB Upgrade Questions
I don't mean to beat a dead horse here, but I have read many mixed reviews on swapping from 6 lug to 5 lug. I'm looking for the easiest economical way to do the swap while upgrading to front disc brakes and a better suspension.
Vehicle is a 1967 GMC SWB. Also, I can't figure out how to decode this SPID. Seems as though the fourth digit means panel, what am I missing? Cs1570d pc1059ca dd C=4x2 S= 6 cyl 1=half ton 5=??? 7=1967 0=??? D=??? BTW, I'm relatively new here and am amazed by all of the knowledge, hospitality, and ease of use that this site offers! Only issue is that my wife thinks I'm having an online affair because I'm always reading the build threads and constantly searching for parts! |

Re: 67 SWB Upgrade Questions
The 67 gmcs were a little tougher to decode. Hopefully bruceman will chime in and break it down for you. Looks to me like it is a 67 gmc shortbed with the custom group and large back window for starters. Nice find.

Re: 67 SWB Upgrade Questions
Swap your rear end with one from a 71 or 72 and swap the front end from a 71-79 for interchangeable parts. I think you can go up to 87 on the xmember but ,Don't quote me on this, Some of the bolt sizes may be different. Somebody else will straighten me out. I like my 6 lug on my 67, but I like the extra wheel options on a 5 lug. A good 71 or 72 parts truck might come along and save you a few bucks. I passed on a 72 last summer with a good six, 3 speed and a great gas tank for 600. Running and stopping. I should have bought it and sold what I did not need to convert mine. Keep your eyes open.

Re: 67 SWB Upgrade Questions
If you swap your rear, please give me first shot at that highly desirable and hard to find Dana60 3.54 ratio and I'll yank my 5-lug 12-bolt and front knuckles to install a 6-lug disc kit. Or, you could do that. 6-lug disc set-ups cost more but you won't be touching the rear and retain a great ratio in the way tougher rear
