new guy with questions

hi, I'm getting a 56 gmc 150 long bed today! woohoo! coming over from the dark side (f--d), and have some questions. being that my truck is a 3/4 ton is all the suspension stuff compatible with 1/2 ton? maybe I should tell you my plan...

LS 6.0 /4l80e, IFS, 12 bolt, a/c, PS, PB, 3-4" drop, re-do the interior, leave the exterior (except re-do bed wood). we have a 1958 kenskill travel trailer that it's gonna pull with the comfort of a newer truck. trailer weight is around 4K or so.

I wanted the long bed and heaver frame for stability pulling the trailer. now mind you, we will probably only pull the trailer 6-8 times a year. I'm building a daily driver.

I guess I'm wondering if anyone out there has done this with a 3/4 ton truck? rear spring lengths the same? or am I gonna have to move mounting perches? front frame width the same for the IFS kit?

any imput is appreciated.

oh yes, one other thing, I used to use photobucket to post photos and now they want some ridiculous amount of money. I have looked here on how to post photos and cannot find the thread. can someone lead me to it?
thanks

Re: new guy with questions

Well the photo deal is easy. Click on "go advanced' next to the post tab below where you are writing. Then to the right of the smiley fact at the top click on the paper clip (attachements0 and the page shows up to select photos.

You select your photos and then hit upload and wait and a close window sign will pop up when they are uploaded.
I have trouble with slow internet and can't upload more than one or two at a time but you shouldn't have an issue with good internet.

As far as independent front end take a look at the crossmeber that Industrial chassis in Phoenix has for TF trucks. I don't think there is a difference between 1/2 and 3/4 ton frames in that part of the frame. The kit uses Dodge Dakota pieces and you can use the big rotors off the full size pickups or vans.
http://www.industrialchassisinc.com/...959-gm-trucks/

Click on the instruction sheet and it gives detailed instructions with photos

That would let you have big brakes on the front with the 11-3/4 rotors.

Re: new guy with questions

A couple crossmembers that i ordered for my 3600 were for a 3100. And they were a couple inches short. Boxed and welded them in anyway. Dont think too many companies make parts for a 3600. I found a 3100 front axle on craiglist and switched it out. The wheel spindles are smaller for a 3100 and they make a disc brake conversion for it. But i think they make one for the 3600 now.

Thanks. I better measure my frame before ordering.

Re: new guy with questions

according to the chevy factory assembly manual the 3200 1/2t lwb and 3600 3/4t trucks use the same frame
different suspension obviously

Re: new guy with questions

which also means the front/rear 3100 suspension kits will fit your 3600 frame
