Hello from Idaho

My name is Dan and I am new to the forum. We just acquired a 55 370 2.5 ton. Rust doesnt look bad, at least nothing i havent tackled before on other projects. I have been in the auto industry for over 25 years and have some fabrication skills. We intend on converting it to 4 wheel drive. The question I'm pondering is this: keep the facrtory frame and do the conversion, or adapt the sheetmetal to a 70s or 80s chassis? Concerns are simplicity and cost.
We will post pictures soon or the truck as it sits.

Thanks for any thought or ideas.

Re: Hello from Idaho

Nice. Looks like it needs a lot of work but I'm sure it's worth it after the restoration.

Re: Hello from Idaho

Great project! Guess it depends on condition of the factory frame, time to repair or strengthen it vs. other 73-87 chassis in good shape you can find around in the yards. I'm new to this, but there's always pros and cons

Yes, it's actually the name of our small business. 7 Devil's Off Road and Fabrication. Snake River, Sawtooth, and that had been run into the ground by local businesses and we wanted something that tied us to Idaho but unique. So we named it after that series of peaks in the Hells Canyon National Monument area.
