bumper with holes in it for bumper guards

Is it possible to use a bumper with extra holes in it for bumper guards WITHOUT using the guards, and still look decent? I have a lead on a great condition bumper for my 78 but it has those holes. Some of them are round, not square holes so you can't use bumper bolts. Is there a solution? I don't like the looks of the guards.

The OEM guards on my 75 used the two holes the normal bolts used. No extra holes required.

If the holes are just in space, get some stainless carriage bolts to fill them. Might have to round the square shoulders a bit.

are you talking about the vertical push bar...shouldn't be any extra holes....should be 6 or 8 for mounting and 2 for tag...top left pic....38-9867

Ok I'm extremely confused now. because I must have some kind of strange oddball bumper. It does NOT appear to just be a regular bumper with extra holes in it. Because there are NO holes where one square hole normally is.... and there an extra round hole above the regularly placed square hole.. the real kicker is the fact that there is NO LOWER square hole at all, but instead an elongated hole ABOVE where the lower square hole is normally at!! WHY??? what is this bumper?! take a look:

does it look like its factory...as in done before chrome...or have they been slotted and drilled by a po? they sure don't match what the lmc pics show

Heres what a factory 78 bumper looks like. I think it will look good. Just fill the unused holes like previously stated.

Looks a little like it might be a bumper for a bumper pad truck. Some trucks had rubber strips running left to right.

Had one on a truck I parted out, just can't remember what the holes looked like beneath the pads...

in order to mount this bumper in the stock locations, it appears I'm going to have to drill two square holes (the lower ones) AND cover FOUR unused holes. There will be 8 carriage bolts surrounding the tag. I don't think its going to look good. On second thought I think I should utilize the lower bolt hole which is in the wrong place, but modify the brackets to accept it. That way I only have 6 bolt heads.

In any case I'd love to solve the mystery of what the heck this bumper is from. Early production? experimental? It looks stock and unmolested. Chromed over, not modified

that's great but mines gonna look like hot garbage... I can't believe somehow the universe has handed me a one of a kind odd bumper that nobody has ever seen the likes of before and the mounting pattern doesn't even make sense.

rainamy...the bumper pads your referring to have a bunch of slotted holes behind the pads on the ones ive seen...refer to the lmc pic above...the 2 on the right side are for those style bumper strips...that's not what he's got...
I've been all over google and can't find a bumper with holes like his...

ding ding ding, we have a winner. I've been sold a van bumper posed as a c10 bumper. looks almost identical, but is not the right size. I've been fooled.

Not to highjack but that is the bumper I’m trying to find locally!
