Just bought a 71 Blazer

Hi All,

First post. I've been looking for a Jeep, Bronco etc
, something I could have as full convertible or at least half as with later Broncos. In my search I came across the early Blazer convertible and love the look of the first gen Blazers. I put an ad on Craigslist saying I was searching for a 69-72 Blazer and an nice guy from Long Island New York contacted me and the deal was done over the weekend, see the picture. He has had it about a year, and it spent the last 30 years in the garage with a few things on the engine needing to be done. He had added all new belts hoses new master cylinder new power steering box new gas tank and a few other odds and ends.

I'm now looking for both advice and parts. The front seats that came with it are out of a Jeep Cherokee with modified attachment Hardware so I'm looking for orrginals either needing work or already done. I also need side view mirrors, there are actually no holes in the doors for the mirrors (did they come that way?). Need the K5 Blazer emblem and an original steel wheel as there is no spare. Any help you guys can give me will be much appreciated I'm located in central New Jersey. Thanks Kevin

Re: Just bought a 71 Blazer

I was tempted to look at that one myself, looks to be in good shape.
Keep checking CL for a spare. There's quite a few members in NJ.
Original seats are hard to find, but they are out there. Good luck with it and enjoy it.

Re: Just bought a 71 Blazer

Thanks for the reply. I never saw it listed anywhere, he called me after seeing my wanted post. I saw a thread here a few days back from 2010 of a guy selling the seats. All brackets powder coated, new foam and upholstery, around $1000 plus shipping. Saw foam alone going for $250 per seat. Saw a set needing to be done, seats only no hardware, near me for $200. Not sure if that's good price or not.

Re: Just bought a 71 Blazer

I have a set of seats that I took out of my '70 Jimmy. All they need is to be bolted in. All brackets and seat belts are included. They are high back seats so I believe they originally came out of a 73-92 blazer or jimmy but they have the 69-72 brackets and will bolt right in.

Re: Just bought a 71 Blazer

$200 for a set of sport seats is a steal. I would go grab them as long as they aren't completely roached. One thing to keep in mind if it didn't original have sport seats and had the utility seats the mounts on the floor is different. You can drill holes for the mirrors. Check the spid to see if it had camper mirrors. I prefer the sport mirrors myself but it's whatever taste you have.

Nice find!

I actually like the look of your seats... if they are comfy maybe have them redone to look original?

Thanks for all the replies, bought the seats on eBay, but might redo seats already in truck to look original as was suggested, never thought of that. Thanks again!

Very nice score there, how's it look underneath as far as rust is concerned? Probably clean from the looks of the outside.

Re: Just bought a 71 Blazer

Sell that thing today.

it is the beginning of an addiction.

I'm here to help.

I will take it off your hands to save you in the end.

Great find. Good looking ride. I have had a t least one since the 80's. The went a stretch over the last few years without one. It was like chewing with a missing tooth, just did not feel right.

I just fell off the wagon recently, again.

They are just way cool to drive. Last weekend it was 80 or so here in NC. Going to a gamily gathering my wife said am I driving (2017 Tahoe) or are you (72 Blazer, top off).

I asked her did that question really need to be asked.

Best of luck.

Scott

How would I know? My guess is the holes are spaced different.

Let me know if you need more pictures and I can measure the seat track length to see if they will bolt in if you like.
