help with core support measurement on a 54

the core support I received with my project is missing the bottom. I am planning on making up one and need to find the correct measurements. could someone please measure theirs and get me closer then what I have. measuring from the top lip of the sides (see orange line in pic)to the very bottom were the rubber would go. I have tried to search this info but no luck. or if some one has one kicking around they want to off cheap. thanks

I just went and measured mine for my 54.

I have 27 1/2 to bottom of support and 28 1/8 to the lower brackets.

The lower portion is offset slightly. My measurements say 3/4" offset.

Looks like the bottom was cut off to clear a Camaro sub frame.

Just a suggestion. The *****i’n radiator supports actually have brackets that bolt to the frame on the sides like the 55-59 trucks do. In my opinion, that’s a better mounting method. There’s a lot of flex in these chassis’ it puts a lot of strain on the lower radiator support. Mine actually has a lot of stress cracks that I’ll need to address.

Just a thought.

looks like someone didnt want to mess with the bolts on the bottom, I have one like that, the bolts on the bottom just spun and with the front clip in place it is hard to get a sawzall blade inbetween the core support and the frame, and I knew I was cutting the bottom off anyway to put it on an s10 frame, so I cut mine roughly where yours is cut.

I think I may have a chunk from one of the 47-53 trucks I did, I will look today since there is a sliver of silver sunshine showing today. it might help you, I cut those higher than yours is cut.

I went out and put a square on one of mine.
From the bottom side of the wings that set on the inner fenders to the bottom of the support's frame it is 21-3/4 inches.

The tabs that set below the frame it's self to bolt the support to the frame stick down 3/4 of an inch. I'd stick with that or slightly less as you can shim it up if you need to but you can't cut it down to get it lower if it sticks down too far.

This is just to clarify the 21-3/4 inch measurement on the bottom.

The line I drew is where I got that measurement from.

what do you mean when you say off set 3/4". just the tabs that hang down that far or are they not evenly centered to each other ?

The U shape, bottom part of the core support isn't straight with the sides. It offsets in towards the engine.

I'll get a photo of mine from the side when I go outside in a bit. I didn't think of that when I took the photos yesterday.

The photo with the level/straight edge clamped to the support shows the offset that Whitedog mentioned.

I didn't get a photo but laid a square across the center line of the holes that mount the support to the frame and their center line is 2 inches from the back side of the core support.

I looked yesterday and today, no luck, I guess I put it in the scrap pile. I have one from a 41 but it wont help.
