58/59 5 Window?
I ran across a GMC cab. Appears to be from a fire truck. Has anyone ever seen a 59 5 window? It appears to be factory.

Re: 58/59 5 Window?
I think I may have seen one of these before but don't remember where. Not sure if factory or not. Maybe was done by the company that did the firetruck conversion. Pretty cool and better visibility for sure.

Definitely factory. Used on big trucks. They pop up every now and then.

Re: 58/59 5 Window?
Those are factory, and definitely cool. I always though it would be neat to use one of those on a pickup. Did you get it?

Boy, that cab appears to be in great shape. I'd grab it just because...

Re: 58/59 5 Window?
It's a big truck (LCF) cab - not the same as pick up cab. Check front fender mount to cab.

Re: 58/59 5 Window?
There was one for sale around here but it was rusted out all along the top of the window/cab line and at bottom of the corner windows. Used in commercial trucks.

I've seen a pickup built using that cab, but can't find the picture. Here's one that I think is an awesome rig though.

Re: 58/59 5 Window?
It was on some GMC big trucks, but the cab fits on 1/2 ton frames.

Re: 58/59 5 Window?
Yep, purdy cool. I've always thought the side opening hood was cool, too.
First time I ever saw someone putting an LCF 1/2 ton together was in the mid '80s. I looked into the cab at the engine compartment and realized there's gonna be a whole lotta room between the top of a Chevy V8 and the doghouse. Seems as though there are quite a few of them around now. |

Re: 58/59 5 Window?
That is not an LCF cab. Its a conventional cab with the fender sections still on it for the front end of a butterfly hood GMC

Re: 58/59 5 Window?
That is pretty cool. One thing for sure the visibility is greatly increased over a small back window - look how tall that center window is. I could see this being an option on large trucks as I have seen this done in the commercial world to increase visibility. Learn something old every day.

Re: 58/59 5 Window?
that is an interesting look for sure. strengthens the cab some too. bet it's a chore to get some glass though. I wonder if a glass shop could cut down a normal big back window to fit the openings.

Re: 58/59 5 Window?
Yeah, I was wondering about the corner glass as well. I think you could order it as tempered glass but I don't know about lami...

Re: 58/59 5 Window?
Good looking cabs that were use mostly for in city delivery trucks from what I have seen. The farmers around here wouldn't pay extra for the windows or upgrade cab but the companies with delivery trucks saw the value of it.
