1967 K10 POWER STEERING Up Grade
I want to install POWER STEERING on my 1967 K10 4 X 4
John Captain Fab has the plate adapter for the C10 , He said it will work on the K10 but has not had time to do a Installation guide. Was wonder if anyone has done this install on the 1967 K10 ? I understand the box will not be in line with the steering column Please let me know |

Re: 1967 K10 POWER STEERING Up Grade
I tried to convert my '67 K/10 Suburban several years ago. It was a bad fit. The '67s with P/S option used Power Assisted Steering. That's a manual steering sector box and hydraulic rams that act as helpers. Also used on Corvettes -- which make them expensive. The '67 sector swings back and forth, not left and right, like on MY '69 [and later] C/10s with Saginaw power steering boxes.
Plate adapters alone do not solve the issue. Maybe on C/10s, not on K/10s. Steering was bad. Bump steering. Bad turning circle. Power steering gearbox kept breaking 1/2'' bolts, going loose, tearing itself out. I decided to restore back to manual steering, but my turning circle was never right again. To pull a U-turn, I had to be in the middle lane to start the turn and land in the curb lane in the other direction. Not very legal. The shop butchered my draglink to fit the new system. We eventually used a later-model adjustable draglink, but when going back to manual steering, the steering geometry was never the same. My advice, Don't do it. The '67 4WDs are different, more like the MY '60-'66s. Sorry for the bad news. Don't listen to the hot shots. I tried it on my '67 K/10 and it sucked. Best solution would be to convert the front end to a '71 or later Dana 44 open knuckle axle that's made for P/S and also you get front power disc brakes.

Re: 1967 K10 POWER STEERING Up Grade
This is what's on my 67 gmc k10 , I bought it with this mod done and I just assumed it was a frame repair at the steering gearbox area. I would think any steering gearbox frame repair kit would get you where you need plus beef up the area where gearbox attaches, which is a weak point to begin with.
