Parking Brake for 53 Chevy on S10 Chassis

I have a 53 Chevy 3100 on a 1993 S10 chassis. I have no parts for the parking brake. I also plan to install a ford 8.8 rear end, but I have to get the parking brake working first to get the truck on the road and through the provincial safety inspection. What is the best set up for the parking brake with the S10 rear axle, and will that be easily modified to work with the Ford 8.8 rear end when i make that change.

Thanks.

Wade

Re: Parking Brake for 53 Chevy on S10 Chassis

the entirety of the s10 system would probably work, get the pedal and beef up the kick panel to mount the pedal, use the cable that goes through the floor and the factory rear cables off the rear end. there is a joining of the front cable to the rear cable pairs with a turnbuckle (the adjustment). everything on the S10 runs down the drivers side frame rail.

when you switch to the 8.8, there should be cables on the 8.8 that work the same as the S10 cables. it wont matter disc or drum as long as you are joining the cables at the turnbuckle. if your 8.8 is disc and the cables run down each side or up the middle, you could probably adapt the rear section of an s10 disc rear cable to it easily, if I recall they use the same type of attachment to the parking brake lever at the rear, or close enough to adapt.

same. use the stock s10 system. the 8.8 from explorer goes up the drivers side, like the s10, so it will just be a simple turnbuckle connection to link the front s10 to the rear 8.8. but really, do it once, do it right, have it appraised, insure it for what it is. drive it. enjoy it.

They nailed it. Make sure to look at how the cables are routed on the donor rig and get the pieces that hold the cables in place off the donor rig.

This reminds me I still need to get my e brake done… same set up, 52 on an 88 s10. Except mine was more of a hack job recovery so I don’t have any stock s10 parts and it’s a 2000 Camaro rear end. Should be fun
