Question Steering Column Swap

MY '76 GMC has a non-tilt steering column with some busted signal light parts. In a swap with a wrecker, I got a pretty good tilt steering column from from an '84 Chevy. Since I've got it, I'd like to install it in the '76, but I'm worried about wiring. Does anyone know if the wire plugs are the same? I'm not keen on having to lie under the dash rewiring a bunch of stuff.

I'm not real sure, but I doubt the plugs are exactly the same. One thing I know is different is the dimmer switch is on the signal lever, along with the wipers, so I'm guessing a little wiring is in order.

The tilt wheel on my 77 Bonanza was way loose so I pulled one from a 79 Silverado. No problems with the plug-in, but I had to use the lower steering shaft from the 79 as the splines are different between the two models/years??? But everything pluged in and worked fine.

MIke's right on with the plug harness. You need to get a 83 or older one to get the wiper controls on the dash like you have now compared to the 84 which has them on the column. The swap is really easy otherwise. While you have the column out it would be a great time to paint it as well as tighten up the 4 torx bolts that are famous for loosening on us.

The wrecker must have told me the wrong year because my column doesn't have wiper controls on the column. I guess that's a good thing for the sake of the swap.
