47-53 front fender to cab bolt sizes
Hello everyone,
I will soon be putting the front end back on the truck and I would like to know what size nuts/bolts to use for mounting the inner/outer fenders to the cab. When I removed the front in one piece just over a year ago pretty much every nut/bolt snapped off. I checked entire LMC catalogue and they dont show them so I thought I would ask. Thank you for your help. |

Re: 47-53 front fender to cab bolt sizes
Some of the venders have a front sheetmetal bolt kit. I got mine for 45 bucks. Inner fenders, outer fenders, radiator support, hood latch piece, splash apron, I think the hood too. I haven't bolted it all up yet but it's all you need for front sheet metal.
I know you took yours off in one piece bit if you plan on taking it apart it might be worth it.

Re: 47-53 front fender to cab bolt sizes
Most of them are 5/16 with a few 1/4 thown in the mix. Length is how anal you are about having too many threads stick out of the nut after it is tight.
Some guys like to use 1 inch long bolts because it is easier to get a nut an washer on if the metal isn't all up real close together but it looks rather crude workmanship wise with way too many threads showing.. You don't need anything more than the grade 2 plated bolts out of the bulk bins that sell by the pound at ACE and a lot of other places. I'd just buy a a hand full of 1/2 inch long, 3/4 inch long and 1 inch long and fit the to work and look the best as I went.

I used this kit from bowtie bits on the last AD, very useful and stainless.

There are a few that have a built in (for lack of the correct term) nut that you need to check the thread count on.

Yes the drivers side inner fender well has the built in nuts. Does anyone know what size those are?

Re: 47-53 front fender to cab bolt sizes
Hello fellow Edmontonian,
I just put my front end together last weekend, used 5/16" by 1" bolts, fender washers etc. not too concerned with threads sticking out. The bolts on the E-brake/cab portion are standard 5/16" bolts as well (5/16-16?) I steal..errr..buy my hardware from work. |

Re: 47-53 front fender to cab bolt sizes
In the coming weeks I'll be heading to somewhere like home depot or edmonton nut and bolt to pickup the hardware. I have to get my steering column and linkage hooked up first. Thanks for the input.
