GMC grille idea....
I know I'm going to get hammered on this, but someone may see my vision....
I have an original grille that needs a little work, love the chrome, but at $6-700 I need to spend that cash elsewhere at least for now. Ok, here I go...thoughts? Kel

Re: GMC grille idea....
I think it has potential. Interesting to see it on the truck.

Re: GMC grille idea....
it would be cool if you could find a way to incorporate the old logo into the modern insert.
I agree it has potential. |

Re: GMC grille idea....
It's definitely workable and the fitment is as good as the aftermarket chrome repo on my new to me GMC.
Wonder how it would look if you were to paint the black background the same color as the truck? |

Re: GMC grille idea....
Personally, I would leave no grill and just make that your "look."

Re: GMC grille idea....
When my Grandfather fit the aux. Per-Lux lamps to the bumper, he discarded the horizontal section of the front grill to make room.
I drove this truck for years thinking the big open space in the grill came that way from the factory. Hahahaha! Wish he had saved it.... -Steve

Re: GMC grille idea....
can we see it from different angles other than straight down? it looks like it would maybe fit better upside down?

Re: GMC grille idea....
I was thinking the exact same thing. I do like the potential of this idea. As others have said, I don't hate it.

Re: GMC grille idea....
Just got it yesterday, trimmed the top corners to get it to fit this much, still needs a bit of tweaking. As far as turning it upside down, be challenging due to the GMC is molded into it. I also like the idea of changing out the GMC with old emblem, again, since its all 1 piece, challenging, but anything is possible. I think once it is painted, it will look better, might shoot it with some rattle can tonite for effect. Appreciate the input, Kel

Re: GMC grille idea....
WAIT A MINUTE! I just re-read your first post. You have an original grill but don't want to spring for the chrome, neither did I years ago and painted it. Just paint the original and put it in there.

Re: GMC grille idea....
That was always an option, I just seem to draw outside the lines a bit...now that it is mocked up, its not finished but its growing on me... Kel

Just my $.02 but you asked: DON'T incorporate plastic stuff. "Cut to fit, bend to suit, paint to match"

Re: GMC grille idea....

great DD beater, but no style. everything is cheap and lightweight, body lines are almost nonexistent just an ogre's opinion

Thanks man, have decided to go with it rather than the stock one. I don't mind being a little different, Kel

I still kinda like it! and I tend to trend toward the purists.
Keep track of the OE grill in case you ever change your mind. |

cut it out for billet grill before the license plates came in the mail.. OP, I like your idea [even though not my style but who cares ] and I think it will look great if you can manage to fit it in there cleanly, maybe work some extra sheet metal around those lines.. I doubt you'll have much success modifying the plastic or even replacing the logo to anything near as sharp as it looks as originally molded in plasti-chrome.. if you're going to replace the logo anyways, might try your hand a fabbing a metal grill in the design of the late model that will accept a fabbed early font metal emblem.. good luck and please keep us posted with pictures!

Re: GMC grille idea....
@68blackbird,
I like the way it looks but my eyes don't like the mismatch between the grill opening which is larger at the bottom, and the grill which tapers in at the bottom. If somehow the opening better followed the lines of the grille... '07 NBS Sierra 3500HD for shop truck. No character to that rig either. The grilles are waay too large these days. |
