4x4 suburban wheel offsets
I'm picking up an 88 suburban 4x4, and am looking to find a set of inexpensive 16" wheels and 285/75R16's for it. the stock wheels appear to be tucked under the truck, and I would prefer them closer to the edge of the wheel wells. anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks- Eric

Re: 4x4 suburban wheel offsets
What backspacing do you have? When you say inexpensive ....well how much and what kind?.....any pics of what you've got?

Re: 4x4 suburban wheel offsets
I'm not sure what the current backspacing is. I was planning on some steel wagon wheels, they're cheap, and I like the look. I currently have what looks like stock aluminum 8 hole wheels, but I'm not sure if they are stock or not. I'm picking the truck up tomorrow or Sunday, running boards are coming off asap. I might throw 2" lift on it, but I plan on keeping it stock and just driving it.

Re: 4x4 suburban wheel offsets
You need a set of aluminum rims from say a '02 2500HD truck like my Duramax 2500. They can be found in nice shape for $250 - $400.
Mine are 16" Never mind... you said 8 hole wheels but you got 6 hole wheels! Silly Me! |

Re: 4x4 suburban wheel offsets
Those wheels look kinda like maybe 4in backspacing...to move the wheel out you'll need something with less bs....or go to a wider wheel and tire.....it's looks spaced about the same as the burb I just parted out...
Although I don't and won't use wheel spacers some people have no issue running them....just a idea...

If you still have the running boards, I would be interested in them!

A little Monday morning comedy for me there, ha. Thanks gents! While I'm here, I'll note that I've found the later model truck take-off wheels tend to have a high offset. As high or higher than what you've got there. I'm interested in what you are looking for too. I saw some wagon wheel type on a suburban on CL in the bay area but wasn't able to get to them in time. Hopefully somebody is running a set of ones that move the tire outward and will post up some pics. Last edited by LT7A; 07-25-2018 at 02:37 PM. |

Re: 4x4 suburban wheel offsets
Those are probably 15x7, factory aluminum wheels. The steel wheel variation is 15x8.
I couldn't get Discount tire to mount 33x12.5's on the 15x7 aluminums so if you are going bigger, than changing out the rims are a good idea too. Sorry, don't know the offset or backspacing off hand.

Re: 4x4 suburban wheel offsets
Those factory aluminum wheels are my favorite. Have them on my K5. I know what you mean about being tucked in. When my factor rearend went out, I replaced it with one that is 1.5 inches wider on each side. It looks a lot better! I know some folks run a spacer to accomplish the same. I plan to go with 33x10.50s on these wheels soon.

Re: 4x4 suburban wheel offsets
The 285s on an 8'' standard rim will fill out the wheel well. You may find you'll need the 2'' lift for what you are trying. 2'' in the front and close to 4'' on the back to level it out

Re: 4x4 suburban wheel offsets
Those are factory 15x7 wheels. I would look for some factory rally wheels in 15x8.

Re: 4x4 suburban wheel offsets
I still have them, not to interested in shipping them, so if you're near Bremerton, we can meet up.

Re: 4x4 suburban wheel offsets
BFG makes a 33x10.50 R15 AT that I am going to throw on these wheels until I swap out to 8 lug running gear.
Currently working on spec'ing out a 3" front, 4" rear lift for the truck, and crossover steering.

Re: 4x4 suburban wheel offsets
Do you really need cross-over steering with a 4" lift? You'll lose your sway bar I believe.

Re: 4x4 suburban wheel offsets
If you are going to swap out to 8 lug wheels, I have a question about that. I have a 3/4 ton 4x4 with 8 lug wheels, I want to change to 6 lug, in the front can I put a 1/2 ton 4x4 6 lug brake rotor on and be done? Checking on "RockAuto", it says the wheel bearings are the same!

Re: 4x4 suburban wheel offsets
I need to replace a bunch of steering components either way. gearbox has play, tierods are worn ect. and the factory geometry is garbage.
