I just purchased my first pickup, a '72 fleetside with column shift 3-speed. I am looking for references, links, books, or other resources to learn what is required to swap in an auto trans.

Are these parts still available from local salvage yards?

Any other must-have resources for 67-72 would also be greatly appreciated. I have a lot to learn about these trucks and can't wait to get started

do a search on here for the tranny swap...been done many times..I did it myself in an afternoon..search this site for any other questions that you have...use the search function

This is the best resorce that you can have when it comes to these trucks. If you have a question on anything about these trucks, regardless of how stupid it may seem. It will be answered fully.

Just bolt it in!

.....You'll need an automatic crossmember, automatic steering column, and automatic linkage.

Oh, and you'll need to change your driveshaft.

I have everything to change several trucks to auto----steering column, auto trans, linkage, drive shafts, radiator, cooling lines, etc.---Just take a drive and bring some $$$ and we can do it in a few hours~~~~~~

Not a big deal but it's always to get original stuff so everything fits
