Fuel gauge calibration
Not sure if it is actually calibration, but I set the fuel sender float, and fuel sender depth so the fuel gauge reads a little above empty with 1.5 gallons of gas in the tank.
Should I have set it up with 2 gallons in the tank? I doubt it will ever get below a 1/4 tank before I fill up. Just wondering how everyone is setting theirs up. . |

Re: Fuel gauge calibration
Hmm, 1/2 gallon is just 2-1/2% of a 20-gallon tank - do you think the gauge will be sensitive enough that you can even detect the difference? Is the sender accessible if you discover you don't like the setting and want to change it? Does it have the set-screw type float arm that's adjustable? Of course the important thing is that it's consistent and YOU know how much is left in the tank.

Re: Fuel gauge calibration
I set mine to read empty when it is completely empty and I never let it get under a 1/2 tank. Except once on a long trip, it almost hit E and I knew E was empty, after E it is running on air. Mine is the factor 30 ohm resistance, I added a capacitor to keep the gauge from moving when fuel sloshes as well.
Whats a gauge if its not accurate? |

Not sure how accurate either the gauge or the sender is. The tank is removable from below the chassis. The sender has a depth adjustment as well as the float arm adjustment. I wanted to know that if I ever get close to empty I still had at least a gallon of fuel left. . |

Re: Fuel gauge calibration
As long as you have a reasonable idea of what gas you have left and how many miles you can go to the next station you are good.
One should be able to pretty well know how many gallons of gas you are going to take after driving X miles, and if you always fill up and look at the mileage since the last fill up you can come real close after a while.
