Big Block Install Problems
Hi
My truck was originally a 350 with a 3 speed. Then the PO converted it to an automatic. That was it’s configuration when I got it 15 years ago. Now I am putting a 454 with a manual trans in the truck. I bought big block stands off of a board member and big block mounts from the parts store. Now for the problem, when I try to put the 454 in it the ball for the clutch pivot is about 2 inches too far back. Any idea what is happening? Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks Danny

Re: Big Block Install Problems
Do you have the big block clutch pivot bracket or did you screw the ball stud into the block?

Re: Big Block Install Problems
I have the pivot ball screwed into the block. However if I was to just move the ball it would be in the center of one of my header tubes.

Re: Big Block Install Problems
Could be the engine stands are in the wrong bolt holes too far back.

Re: Big Block Install Problems
The stands are in the forward holes. I tried swapping sides but they will only fit on one side. I may just go hydraulic and not worry about it.

Re: Big Block Install Problems
It's been a long fought battle with headers and clutch linkage in these rigs. Might have to cut and reweld a couple of tubes.
