Tall deck 427 496 572 vortec 8100 guys, need help with headers
Done quite a bit of searching thru here and have tried the few good suggestions I found without any luck. I have test fit without success sanderson bb8, and hooker 2463 headers. Currently have a butchered set of hedman 68610 chevelle headers that I want to replace.
Truck info, 4wd, currently has a tall deck 427, pushed 2" forward from where the factory 350 was, also had a hydraulic slave cylinder. I am getting ready to swap in a vortec 8100, the blocks are the same dimensions, including additional head height. Using the 427 for mock up so I can have the exhaust ready (o2sensors positioned amd welded in) Looking for a set of headers that will fit better than what i have. I am going to try shaving an eighth inch off he frame rails soon to see if it will help at all (frame will get boxed while motor is out). I dont want to dent up either set i have yet until i can see if anyone has a similar setup (can still return both sanderson amd hooker)

You may want to post this question in the 4x4 section. Member DirtyLarry post up in that section and he is into 8100 swaps. Here is a link to one of his threads.

You know that the Tall deck is not a HP motor its a low end grunt motor. Now if you want to clime a skyscraper That engine with a PTO with a winch will get you in and out of trouble

Quote:
Later on I traded it for a 454, and after that I learned that the 366 had a forged 427 crank. I think that's why the guy wanted it. We were both happy in the end. For headers, I just ran some ceramic coated hookers off the shelf for my truck.

Can’t help with the headers but In a 4x4 you’ll love the 8.1. I’ve had two of them and currently still have one of them. Best gas truck motor ever built in my opinion. Torque for miles down low and I can still get 12-14 mpg on the highway in the suburban if I can keep my foot out of it. I had a 05 Silverado 8.1/Allison that I had planned to run in my 57 but life gets in the way and I had to sell the 05 earlier this year. I’m in to see progress on this one.
