Exhaust Recommendation
Greetings from AZ,
As the title states...I’m ready for a new exhaust to replace the 80s glasspacks and 2” pipe. Looking for recommendations. The knowns are: ‘68 LWB/trailing arms ‘68 327 Ram horns Holley 4160 Prefer side exit behind rear wheels. The unknowns: Mufflers? Pipe size? Crossover? I prefer a mild/mellow sound |

Re: Exhaust Recommendation
This question leaves a lot of things wide open. Is it a stock 327? What are your goals? Do you want to keep the stock manifolds?
So I’ll assume the 327 is stock and you want to keep the factory manifolds with my opinion. I would go with a 2 1/2” inlet with an H pipe into a magnaflow muffler, and exit with 2 1/4”. If you plan to update the 327 with cam, headers, intake etc... I would go 2 1/2 for the entire system. |

Re: Exhaust Recommendation
Thanks. The motor is stock and I plan to keep the rams. What is the benefit of running 2 1/4” vs 2 1/2” after the x-over?

Re: Exhaust Recommendation
I mention that for 2 reasons. 1, because you mention wanting a mellow tone and 2 because depending on the skill of the shop installing your exhaust. A lot of shops have an issue getting larger diameter piping over the rear axle of lowered trucks.

Ahhhh. Makes sense.
What mufflers do you suggest? Thank you for the replies. |

Re: Exhaust Recommendation
Something by magnaflow. They’re usually prettt tame at idle and have a decent bark when Opened up. Listen to some clips on YouTube to get a taste for what you like.
