Nearly Done USAF 3100 4x4
Actually will never be done but close enough to go to the beach. Its ever evolving as the attached thread evolves. Amazingly (frighteningly) fast. Still lacks USAF hood and tailgate decals and lots of little's. Yes those are power running boards under the originals. Needed for us old folks.

USAF 430TFS 1969-1973 Think we passed each other. FWIW I started a build thread on that forum.

Re: Nearly Done USAF 3100 4x4
Thanks. Not a perfect job by any means but built to last. The memorial for the 10 aircrew we lost from my squadron in Vietnam 72-73 will to be engraved on mytlewood sideboards.

Re: Nearly Done USAF 3100 4x4
The 428th, 429th and 430th squadrons were bombing Laos and 5 F-111a crews were lost. Truck was used to transport many of them while at Nellis.
For full story of my CO ( Col Coltman and Capt Brett) google " f-111 Ranger 23". Lost in 72 and found some 30 yesrs later. FWIW: Was down in Gold Beach today. Rogue is packed full of fishing boats right now all circling a big dredge barge, its dump barge and the tug boat. Only 50 feet wide between barge and jetty and little boats are dodging them and the 20' huge clamshell digger while in operation! its nuts. |

Re: Nearly Done USAF 3100 4x4
I think it would look great with some steel wheels with small caps, or possibly even a set of slotted mags. The saw blades are a little newish for my tastes.
Enjoy your cool ride, you did a great job. |

Re: Nearly Done USAF 3100 4x4
Thanks. I agree on the wheels. They are probably 35+ years old and await "financial recuperation" for replacement.

Re: Nearly Done USAF 3100 4x4
I was lucky and lived and worked with same pilots and navigators 24 -7 almost whole 4 years. Why their loss was personal. Spent brief time in right seat and knew that instrumentation well.

Re: Nearly Done USAF 3100 4x4
What kind and size of wheels would be your "dream" wheels for this beast? Looks like standard Chevy 6 lug on there.

Re: Nearly Done USAF 3100 4x4
Yes They are standard chevy 6 lugs 12.5x33 x15 . I have no idea as to what might look good. Need to recover from all the costs so far so at this point "free" would be almost a prerequisite. Open to ideas

Re: Nearly Done USAF 3100 4x4
15x8 with a clip style hub cap would look great.

Re: Nearly Done USAF 3100 4x4
I wish I had some pics.
I was talking the period correct caps for his truck. They didn't go over nubs they had a ring that attached on the clips. I saw the clips for sale on e bay
