Wiper motor and dash brace
I'm wondering if I wasted a lot of time or not this morning. I got my brake assembly bracing all done, took forever to bend the pieces just right, to thick to do with pliers.
It's installed, its strong, I'm happy and then I thought of the old brace that went from firewall to dash and also held the wiper motor. I thought I had to have it get the motor in the right spot. Well I felt like a real dummy when I noticed and then remembered how I took it off. There are two brackets on underside of dash. Spent a lot of extra time cutting and painting and getting it to fit back in there. Do I need the old brace? What did mount to it under the dash? Is my brace assembly enough of a brace?

Re: Wiper motor and dash brace
The "wiper brace" is off the top of the cowl vent brace I believe. I have mine sitting in a box on the floor of the garage right now I will check tonight. I have an extra if you need it.
There is also a small brace that bolts to the motor to hook it to that other brace from the dash to the firewall. Brian

Re: Wiper motor and dash brace
Yea I noticed and remembered those brackets under the dash afterwards...
If you can see what or how it mounts to that brace I'd appreciate it. If I don't need the brace, I think I can do without.

Re: Wiper motor and dash brace
I can pull the hose out of there and get another photo or two if it would help.

Re: Wiper motor and dash brace
Ok cool, I have those little pieces coming down from top of dash. So... What about the brace that goes from firewall to steering column upper bolts? Anything bolt to that? I went through the trouble to make it fit back in there on top of brake assembly. Things are a bit bulky in there now, almost wouldn't mind removing it and just keeping brake assembly as my main brace if that's ok.

Re: Wiper motor and dash brace
I ran a piece of 3/16 steel plate behind the firewall on mine when I had the firewall mounted master cylinder. Joedoe isn't woofing there without decent support that firewall will really flex. One of the first ones I ever saw with a firewall mounted master cylinder cracked the firewall out around it. Actually that is the reason I saw it. a friend had it ins his shop trying to figure out how to fix it and add enough strength it wouldn't happen again.
I used the largest piece of plate I could stick in there to spread the pressure out over a large area.

Re: Wiper motor and dash brace
I guess I'm not over thinking it lol. I used bracing the firewall as one of my excuses for cutting my donor's hood up so I could smooth/cover holes up on firewall. Then when I moved the MC over some I added yet another piece of sheet metal. I now have the brake assembly extended and braced to the dash and now I can keep the original brace.
So... that enough?
