Windshield Blues
Hired a professional who is experienced with old vehicles. Broke first one. I think he sanded too much off the corner of windshield #2. Scraped paint. Torn gasket too. Guess I need to look for another “expert.”

Re: Windshield Blues
Post the name of the expert so others in your area do not get screwed by them.

Re: Windshield Blues
Been through this myself several times. I finally have found a good one here local, but this is becoming a lost art. Surely you can get it, but I am 5 hours from Knoxville and there is a guy here if all else fails.

Re: Windshield Blues
What glass are you using ? Gasket ? What part of Knoxville are you in ? There really shouldn't be any reason to sand the glass down unless it's cheap glass or the opening is out of shape ? You could call Griffey's and ask what he gets to rope in a customer supplied windshield and gasket or he will point you to the right guy ?

Re: Windshield Blues
I can't believe companies sand/grind on glass. I know the autobody shop brought in a company that BROKE 2-3 of them before they got one in. I wound up having to take it out and replace it because I was too tall for the tint band.
That meant finding someone good locally. I finally did, and he had no trouble. It seems you either know how to do this or not. A friend and I tried ourselves got it in a few times but could never get the stainless trim perfect!

Re: Windshield Blues
Yeah. I don’t even have trim to worry about. I wanted the greenish tint band and he said it wasn’t offered so this one is blue.

Re: Windshield Blues
They have clear, clear with top blue tint and green tint that is close to soft ray also a grey tint .. order a new Precision gasket yourself And a new windshield (I'll find you the best deal locally ) ,
The trick to these dropping in easier is to apply the gasket to the windshield a week before your ready to install ,This allows the tight gasket to stretch around the glass and settle . pulling a brand new gasket out of the bag ,stretching onto the glass makes the gasket "alive" wanting to go back to it's un stretched shape.resulting in the gasket wanting to roll off the glass and corners that have the "pulled in look" also the interior top corners end up looking stretched and out of shape and the gasket will get that waffle edge look from being over worked .

Don't let him touch the truck again. He has CLEARLY shown he has no idea what he is doing.

Re: Windshield Blues
The only time I've EVER sanded a windshield was if a vehicle had been rolled and the opening wasn't quite right.

Re: Windshield Blues
i have just fitted a blue top tint windsheild ,two gaskets later, both precision.btw
i have the stainless steel trim which is a pita, first gasket fitted ok and trim would not hold at top corners , so ordered another gaskets and tried again, The fit is fine externally , but the seal seams to be too wide, as its not fitting right on the top inside. about 6 inch in from the top corners it does not seat properly. having said that i am not taking it out again, i will keep the visors down.

I haven’t paid him a cent, so I am not being screwed. Looking for another installer.

Re: Windshield Blues
Got it done right. Looks like factory SoftRay. Precision gasket is a key.
