Need some info on upgrade 54s suspension

Hey guys. This is my ride. 1954 with a 355sbc. It has air ride on the rear and 4 wheel disk brakes. My problem is the it still has the exle front suspension and rides like a tank! I have been doing some homework and im leaning towards the Mustang II kit. My question is can this upgrade be done without tearing down the front of my teuck and does anyone have a recommendation on someone in the south Alabama area that has done this? Also what you think it should cost, lobor. Thanks

Re: Need some info on upgrade 54s suspension

There are a couple of "bolt on MII" crossmembers that cost a tad more than the weld on but are all bolt on.

This is the Speedway unit. https://www.speedwaymotors.com/Bolt-...ber,50961.html

I don't know what the difference is but Classic industries has one for 299.95 I'd be checking close to see where they cut corners But that is an interesting price.

Steve at Industrial Chassis in Phoenix sells a bolt in crossmember that runs Dodge Dakota Control arms and spindles. The rub there is the bolt pattern. Not a big deal if you are running a nine inch with Ford bolt pattern but a big deal if you have 5 on 4-3/4 wheels already. This is the link to the instruction sheet. http://www.industrialchassisinc.com/...-instructions/

Years ago when R B Obsolete was a big player in the Chevy truck parts game they had one of the first MII bolt in crossmebers that looked almost exactly like the one Speedway sells. I spent a lot of time looking one over at Goodguys in Puyallup one year and the rep said that two guys could pretty easily do the swap in a long day.

You will have to trim the inner fenders a bit for A arm and upright clearance and that takes some serous measuring to do it neatly without making the opening too big.

48 Chev 3100 that will run a 292 Six.
71 GMC 2500 that is getting a Cad 500 transplant.
77 C 30 dualie, 454, 4 speed with a 10 foot flatbed and hoist. It does the heavy work and hauls the projects around.

Depending on you budget and if you plan to keep the truck a while, you might look at No Limit. It uses Corvette IFS pieces.
