Dad's 59 apache
Looking for a good source for original drum brake components for my Dad's 59. I have found a few companies (LMC, etc.) only carry some of the parts. Looking to replace most everything to make it safe for him to drive (stop). Looking for stock master cylinder, lines, hoses, shoes, shoe springs. He already has new wheel cylinders.
Any/all suggestions welcomed to source components. Thanks, Jim |

Most parts can be found at a good parts store, Napa has the most. Rock Auto ect.

Re: Dad's 59 apache
if youre doing all that work it may be worthwhile to swap the master cyl out for the dual system style. it is a safer system because if you blow out a rubber line or have some other hydraulic failure in the system then the whole system doesn't go down. you would still have either front or rear brakes. a single system, like stock, would drain the whole system out with a couple of pedal pumps and then you have no brakes at all except for the emergency brake. it is not that awesome.

Re: Dad's 59 apache
I've found everything I need at Napa including the original master. Sorry to contradict dsraven but.... if all hoses are kept in tip top shape, an original master works just fine.
Just make sure you set up the brakes properly to get the most out of the drums and you'll have a safe and reliable truck.

I have found a few other places to have slightly better prices, but since they are 15 min up the road. I usually just buy from there on special. |
