Solenoid wire
Gents just thinking out an issue, the automatic trucks used a neutral safety switch inline on the solenoid wire, did the stick shift trucks use the same wire in the harness with just a connector in place of the neutral safety switch...? Helped a guy with the so called hot start issue, well not really, this being an auto truck converted to four speed, and realizing his problem is bad connections on the solenoid wire which comes from ignition, thru safety switch, thru the firewall. We replaced the wire totally with a one piece wire same size/color, issue resolved. just curious if the stick shift trucks had the same issue with the solenoid wire, too many connections creating resistance wire heats up and will not pass current.

As I recall, manual trans would have switch that closes when the clutch pedal is on the floor, making it hard to drive w/ the starter. Then again as things got hacked over the years, such luxuries often went away.

The manual trans trucks had absolutely no neutral safety switch.

This is what I thought that they did not come into play until sometime in the seventies...just curious as to the stick shift trucks used as solenoid wire one piece or with a link in there...?

Yeah, the clutch safety switches didn't come along until into the 73+ squarebody era trucks.
In these years, the cab wiring harness used with manual transmissions has the solenoid wire running directly from the ignition switch to the firewall connector. |
