Dual Tank Switching Valve, is it working?

First, thanks to 100%Chevy, jwilson645,blazer2007, and Dead Parrot for the great information in my previous treat on, No gas to the Carburetor. I have the bed off and I am fixing to check the condition of inside my tanks, replace rubber lines, and clean ground wires.

Second question, how do I know if my switching valve is working. I can hear it making noise when I toggle the switch on the dash. Is that enough evidence that it is working? Thanks

The noise means it's trying to work.
Proof would be gas flowing thru from the tank selected.
As an aid in working on stuff,I have a fuel line hose from an outboard motor.It has a squeeze bulb for priming the engine with gas.
It's a great siphon hose to use!
That's what I use to test my fuel systems.Just hook it to the valve and see if you can pull fuel thru from the selected tank.
I took my tank valve off to clean it out.It works but I don't trust it now!
I will be putting a filter between the tank and the valve on mine too.

This is a great idea!
On adding a filter before the switching valve are you going to cut the metal line and insert a filter?

I'll put a filter between the tank and the valve.In the rubber hose.One for each tank.
I have 2 valves on the bench now.Both were stopped up with garbage from the tanks.
I rinsed them out with gas and then let them soak with trans fluid.
They work just fine now,but who knows how long!
I bought a new one from O'Reilley's and put it on my old car hauler.It's good to go now.
I have 3 trucks with the dual tanks.

Mike, did you have to buy a connector for the selector valve?

No,it uses the original wiring connector.
One thing though.It has 5/16's return fittings and my 82 has 1/4.
But,I made it work.
I'll try to post the part number tomorrow when I'm down at the shop.

Mike, What did you do when you mated the 5/16 hose to the 1/4 metal return line?

Well-------
I have a pile of rubber fuel lines and found some that was tight on the 5/16 and a little loose on the 1/4.Then screw clamps.
Seems to be holding o.k.
When I get the fuel filters for it,I will make some adapters with copper tube.(I'll silver solder some 1/4 into 5/16.
There may be a valve with the right size ports,but I haven't found it yet.
